Ingredients

- 1/2 cup granulated sugar

- 4 ripe bananas (sliced)
- 1 box (11 oz) vanilla wafers

Instructions
- Make the pudding: In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, sugar, flour, and salt over medium heat. Stir constantly until the mixture begins to thicken and bubble, about 5-7 minutes.
- Temper the eggs: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs. Gradually pour a small amount of the hot milk mixture into the eggs while whisking constantly to temper them.
- Combine the eggs with the milk mixture: Slowly pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan, whisking constantly. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until thickened to your desired consistency.
- Add the vanilla and butter: Remove from heat, stir in the vanilla extract and butter until fully combined. Let the pudding cool for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Assemble the banana pudding: In a 9×9-inch baking dish, layer the vanilla wafers, followed by banana slices, then pour half of the pudding mixture over the top. Repeat the layers with the remaining wafers, bananas, and pudding.
- Chill the pudding: Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight.
- Serve: Top with whipped cream (optional) and additional banana slices or crushed wafers for garnish.
