Description

This Homemade Pizza Dough recipe is simple to make and results in a soft, chewy crust that’s perfect for any of your favorite toppings. Whether you’re making a classic Margherita or something more adventurous, this dough is the perfect base for your pizza night.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups (395 grams) all-purpose flour or bread flour
  • ½ tablespoon kosher salt
  • ¼ ounce instant or active dry yeast packet (or 2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (105°F)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix the warm water with the yeast. Stir until the yeast is dissolved and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes frothy. If you’re using instant yeast, you can skip this step and mix it directly with the flour.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and kosher salt. Mix well to evenly distribute the salt.
  3. Pour the activated yeast mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon or your hands until a dough begins to form.
  4. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead it for about 6-8 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic. You may need to add a little more flour if the dough is too sticky. It should be soft but not overly tacky.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 ½ hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll or stretch it into your desired pizza shape (round or rectangular).
  7. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) while you prepare the pizza. If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it’s preheating.
  8. Transfer the rolled dough to a greased or parchment-lined pizza pan or stone. Add your favorite sauce, cheese, and toppings.
  9. Bake the pizza for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and melted.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
  • For an extra flavor boost, add dried herbs like oregano, basil, or garlic powder to the dough.
  • If you’re gluten-free, you can use a gluten-free flour blend in place of the all-purpose flour, but adjust the recipe accordingly.
