Description
Apple “sandwiches” are a fun, healthy snack made with crisp apple slices layered with creamy nut or seed butter and optional toppings. They’re quick and easy to prepare, making them perfect for a kid-friendly after-school snack or a light, wholesome dessert.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 2 crisp apples (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji)
- ¼ cup peanut butter, almond butter, or sunflower seed butter
Optional Toppings
- Granola
- Raisins or dried cranberries
- Mini chocolate chips
- Chia seeds or shredded coconut
Instructions
- Prepare the apples: Wash the apples thoroughly and slice them into rounds approximately ¼ inch thick. Remove the core from each slice using a small round cutter or knife, creating an apple ring.
- Spread the butter: Take one apple slice and spread a thin layer of your choice of nut or seed butter evenly on one side.
- Add toppings: Sprinkle your chosen optional toppings such as granola, raisins, chocolate chips, chia seeds, or shredded coconut over the nut or seed butter layer.
- Assemble the sandwiches: Place another apple slice on top of the prepared slice, buttered side down, to form a sandwich.
- Repeat: Continue spreading, topping, and assembling with the remaining apple slices until all are used.
- Serve immediately: Serve your apple sandwiches fresh for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- To prevent the apple slices from browning, lightly brush them with lemon juice before assembling.
- For a nut-free alternative, use sunflower seed butter instead of peanut or almond butter.
- These apple sandwiches are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a few hours without losing flavor.
