Description
A warm, comforting apple dessert with tender, spiced apples baked under a golden, buttery oat crumble. Perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
Ingredients
For the Apple Filling:
- 6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith + Honeycrisp work well)
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
For the Oat Topping:
- 1 cup (100 g) old-fashioned rolled oats
- ¾ cup (95 g) all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup (150 g) brown sugar, packed
- ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in butter with a pastry cutter or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle oat topping evenly over apples.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.
- Cool slightly before serving warm.
In a large bowl, toss apple slices with lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Spread evenly into the prepared baking dish.
Notes
- Serve with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, or whipped cream.
- Add ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping for extra crunch.
- Mix in cranberries or pears with the apples for variation.
- Leftovers keep covered in the fridge for up to 4 days; reheat before serving.
