Description

A warm, comforting apple dessert with tender, spiced apples baked under a golden, buttery oat crumble. Perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

  • 6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith + Honeycrisp work well)
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

For the Oat Topping:

  • 1 cup (100 g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ¾ cup (95 g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (150 g) brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss apple slices with lemon juice, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Spread evenly into the prepared baking dish.

  3. In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in butter with a pastry cutter or fork until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle oat topping evenly over apples.
  5. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.
  6. Cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • Serve with vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, or whipped cream.
  • Add ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping for extra crunch.
  • Mix in cranberries or pears with the apples for variation.
  • Leftovers keep covered in the fridge for up to 4 days; reheat before serving.
