Description
Ambrosia Salad is a creamy and refreshing dessert salad made with tropical fruits, sweet marshmallows, and a tangy creamy base. Perfect for gatherings or a light treat, this easy-to-make salad is always a crowd-pleaser.
Ingredients
- For the Salad:
- 1 can (15 oz) mandarin oranges, drained
- 1 can (20 oz) pineapple chunks, drained
- 1 cup mini marshmallows
- 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, drained and halved
- 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 cup whipped cream (or 1 cup whipped topping)
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (optional, for sweetening whipped cream)
- For the Vinaigrette (optional):
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon honey (optional, for sweetness)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Drain the mandarin oranges, pineapple chunks, and maraschino cherries thoroughly. Pat dry with paper towels to remove excess liquid.
- If using heavy cream, beat it with powdered sugar (optional) until soft peaks form. Alternatively, use pre-made whipped topping for a shortcut.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained fruits, mini marshmallows, maraschino cherries, shredded coconut, and stir gently to mix.
- Fold in the sour cream and whipped cream (or whipped topping). Mix gently until everything is evenly coated with the creamy dressing.
- Chill the salad in the fridge for at least 1 hour (or overnight) for the flavors to blend.
- Before serving, give the salad a gentle stir and garnish with extra maraschino cherries or a sprinkle of coconut. Serve chilled and enjoy!
Notes
- The salad is great for making ahead and actually tastes better after sitting in the fridge for a few hours or overnight.
- If you want a lighter version, use light or fat-free whipped cream and sour cream.
- Add fresh fruits like strawberries, grapes, or apples for extra flavor and texture.
- Feel free to replace marshmallows with mini chocolate chips or other fun additions.
